The Process

This page documents the process of making the props that go outside and inside The Barn Haunted House.
Below is the picture of the door I added for access to get in and out of The Barn. The next picture is the door. The third picture top row shows the end of haunt. This is picture from a previous year but it shows that there was a space to place a prop on the right. To the left is covered in plastic and it was a space being used for storage. I took that whole area out and made it the entry and exit. See pics below. Oh, the fourth picture is picture of another year it just shows the prop in the space and the black plastic.
The 5th and 6th picture shows the exit doorway without the door. It also shows the huge chair that sat in this space. Over the years this space has had numerous props sitting in that chair. That chair no longer exists, it was time for it to go away.  It only fit in this spot due to it's size. The bottom pictures shows the prop I put in the corner; the exit door on the right.

The making of the morgue 2019

These pictures show the process of working on the morgue.  The picture on the top right shows the kids hanging out.
These pictures document the process for the creepy kennel. I used baby gates for the doors. I did a lot of building this year and it paid off. I received lots of thumbs up from those that walked through. I had fun building this year. Nothing I build is square but it's stable and that is what is important.

This is my favorite so far. I have been working on the props because The Barn had to take a bit of a de-tour until I can get some things taken care of. It has put me really behind but I will figure out what I need to focus on and what I really should leave until the next year rolls around. Better that than a half finished haunt!

Working on The Barn Haunt. Adding new walls and using pieces of the work bench that I had taken apart for some of the walls. If you give me a piece of wood I will find a use for it!

Barn Hats

I need some hats for the scarecrows and The Barn Props. So I just went for it and I think it came out very good. This idea and overall design was inspired by Grim Stitch Factory.

Dollar store large balloons and twine. Blow up the balloon enough to tie the twine around. Tie the twine around tight and blow more air into the balloon. It will make the ridges that you see above.
Picture

I put plaster gauze around the balloon and added paper stem. I got the plaster bandages from BITY because the craft store stuff is crap.

I haven't decided how to fill the inside yet. This will go on one of the scarecrows.

Barn Masks

Old Timer

Picture
This was a smaller armature that I used and I added the shoulders. I did not like it at all so I stuck it some where until I could work with it.
Picture
There were several steps I guess I did not get documented. I cut off the shoulders and added more loose weave burlap. There is a button under the second layer of burlap for the nose. I am loving this piece now.

Barn props in progress for The Barn Haunt 2014. These might take the place of the skeletons with lanterns.

These are going to be very tall when they are done. Excited to see them finished.
Picture
I put him on his base today and decided the other head was way too small. I put one of my scarecrow heads I made on him. He is still far from done but progress is being made. It is so hot here!

barn  masks

Picture
I started to make a sculpture of a scarecrow so I could make a mold and then cast it in latex. I decided to go in a different direction (see below) and did not finish this sculpt.

These are finished Barn Jars. I need battery tea lights to go inside them. I'm super excited to see how they look.

2012-2013

This is the very first mask I made. I was happy with the outcome even though it was imperfect and lacked detail.

I am still not sure what caused the deep bubbles that I could never get under control in the latex process.

My second mask.
I learned a lot making both of these masks. It is a good thing I was not planning on wearing either of these. They were tiny and would not have fit over my head.

I have not figured out how to reproduce hands yet. I bought these hands from Terror Syndicate.

I ended up changing the mask, and putting a foam heart in her hands. This is the final prop.

This torso, we call him Ralph, was made of foam and chicken wire. I had the foam skull, but cut the mouth open to make it a little more dynamic.
